Project Overview:
The OST/Almeda Corridors Redevelopment Authority – TIRZ #7 is undertaking the construction of resilient and sustainable infrastructure improvements along Live Oak Street to support neighborhood revitalization, infill housing, and economic development. The corridor is currently characterized by deteriorated roadway, sidewalks, and utilities, and lacks adequate pedestrian and streetscape amenities.
Scope of Work:
Roadway and Infrastructure Improvements:
- Full reconstruction of pavement
- Installation of reinforced concrete curbs and gutters
- Upgrades to underground utilities (as needed)
Pedestrian and Accessibility Enhancements:
- Construction of minimum 5-foot ADA-compliant sidewalks
- Installation of wheelchair ramps at intersections
- Enhanced street lighting for safety and visibility
Streetscape and Public Realm Features:
- Special landscaping with native and drought-tolerant plantings
- Historical and cultural markers to reflect the community’s heritage
- Installation of pedestrian-scale lighting, benches, trash receptacles, and other street furniture
Economic Development Support:
- Infrastructure improvements to support infill housing
- Enhancements at economic development nodes and underdeveloped parcels
- Integration of commercial development opportunities along the corridor
Project Goals:
- Improve mobility, safety, and accessibility for all users
- Enhance the visual identity and livability of the Third Ward
- Support housing and commercial development
